Royale 5mm thick Sonic Gold is designed to be the best underlay for wood or laminate floors. It has a gold foil backing designed for insulation as well as a water resistance membrane. It's a high-performance product engineered to perfectly insulate laminate and hardwood floors, and work alongside underfloor heating solutions. Produced using closed-cell polyethene foam with an integrated gold foil moisture barrier featuring 200mm joint overlap, this 5mm underlay from Royale is also perfect for reducing impact and airborne noises.
By utilizing recyclable P.E. Foam the Royale Gold Comfort Underlay provides damp resistant properties and the ability to accommodate for minor subfloor imperfections, ensuring that your laminate or hardwood flooring remains level.
Type: Wood & Laminate Underlay
Suitability: Domestic
Roll Size: 15m2 (1m x 15m)
Thickness: 5mm
Tog Rated: 1.69 approx.
Impact Sound Reduction: 24dB approx
Fitting Requirements
You will need Barrier Pro X Tape to secure underlay joins and a moisture lock
Application: Before installation, ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, and free from dust or debris by sweeping or vacuuming the area. When installing the underlay, always position the gold foil side facing down towards the subfloor. This creates an effective moisture barrier that helps prevent damp from rising into the underlay and flooring. Place the roll flush against the wall with the 200mm foil overlap facing into the room, then roll it out across the floor and trim to size. Lay the next row by placing the PE foam edges tightly side-by-side, ensuring the foam does not overlap while covering the foil overlap section. Repeat this process until the entire floor is covered. Finally, secure all joins using Barrier Pro X Tape along the full length of each seam. This keeps the underlay in place and seals the foil moisture barrier, removing the need for a separate damp-proof membrane.
